Best Books About Leadership Practices

To start, 360 Leader written by John C. Maxwell: This book was a lot of information to gather and is one to refer back to later in life to really re-analyze myself and see where I actually am. When I was reading this, the material presented was a lot to take in an understand but after slowly go through it, the picture began to get painted. The myths presented were very interesting to. Each myth focused on one area of life that I focus on or need to grow in.

The Position Myth: No title needed just influence

The Destination Myth: Really learn as much as you can now

The Influence Myth: Make sure to experience yourself

The Freedom Myth: More Respect

The Potential Myth: Reach for potential and strive

All or Nothing Myth: Improve your leadership and organizations

Two major points that I took away from this book was being able to think long- term. If that be thinking about my future career, family, or path. Really just being able to take a minute and think long-term about situations will not only help me now shape my future but it will also give me something to look forward to. Being an agent of change is another area that I love. I want to be someone who creates change and the one that wants to challenge a situation to try to make it better than it was.

The One Minute Manager written by Kenneth Blanchard & Spencer Johnson: A young boy was on a mission to find managers that were good at managing but also effective. He was not looking for stereotypical hot head manager. He went everywhere from locals businesses, companies and organizations. He finally heard and found out about a manager in his neighborhood. The gentlemen’s name was the “One Minute Manager”. The young man was surprised with all the time the manager had. When he met with he ran by his secretary and they set him up with these other people to meet with Mr. Trenell, Mr. Levy and Ms. Brown to talk about effective mongering. He also met Mrs. Gomez and Mrs. Brown.

One Minute Goal Setting: Write each of your goals out using less than 250 words. Analyze your goals one minute praising. Praise immediately, be specific, engage with the person.

Creative Followership, My Journey to President of CFA Jimmy Collin:

Any great leader or a leader who wants to be effective needs to follow a leader for a period of time. This book talks about when a President takes on a leadership role and follow through. The books opens into two parts. The first part being the Philosophy of Followership. Then the second part being the Principles of followership. As I read these section I went on adventure through the life of Kimmy Collins and learned that leadership cannot be taught. I also got to embrace on how a leader knows he or she is a leader because he or she will have followers. The Followership Principles are all important when wanting to be a leader. It takes patience and trail and failure. Collins looked up to Mr. Truett Cathy as an executive leader and he followed him. I was able to take away how to use input and feedback to my abilities so I can be a better person and grow. I can take responsibility head on and truly develop myself. This book truly allowed me top open my eyes to allow me to follow but also to lead.

Heart of Leadership written by Mark Miller:

The Heart of Leader and Becoming a leader people to follow really inspired me on how to become an effective leader who knows and cares about what they are doing. This book really showed me to have courage with everything I do and spread my courage to throughout the team. Throughout the book I got to found out an acronym that really summarizes the book but also summarizes a great leader.

Hunger for Wisdom

Expect the Best

Accept Responsibility

Respond with Courage

Thinks Others First

See the Future

Engage and Develop Others

Reinvent Continuously

Value Results & Relationships

Embody the Values

Both of these acronym really summarized how to be leader that has a heart and a leader that cares. One part that I enjoyed was being able to reach out to leaders and mentors. Over the past couple months I developed a small group of individuals that I go to and ask for help and/or support. Everyone needs to a good support system.
